How to Stay Fit Over Forty

If you are over forty years old and see that you are putting on a few extra inches around your waistline, perhaps it is time for you to start getting back into shape. After forty, many of us do not get nearly the amount of exercise we did when we were younger. Perhaps you used to play organized sports and now don't get much physical exercise.
It is never to late to get fit. You just need to be determined that you want to lose a few inches or pounds and develop a fitness routine that suits your lifestyle.
Getting in shape does not have to cost you money. You do not have to join a gym or a workout class. If you have a bicycle in your garage, pump up the tires, climb on, and get pedaling. Bicycling is fun and it is a great way for people over forty to build muscle and burn calories at the same time.
Taking regular, brisk walks is also very beneficial in getting yourself conditioned. Make your walks more pleasurable by listening to music on your Mp3 or ipod as you walk. Make your walking sessions last for at least twenty minutes, and walk quickly. This will slowly build your endurance, build up your lung capacity and burn a good number of calories.
There are many ways for people over forty to get in shape. Visit your local pool and swim on a regular basis. Go for walks, jump on your bike and burn away those unwanted pounds!
